Appendix B — Country notes
A workspace's country is chosen at sign-up and cannot change afterwards (Chapter 4). It decides which statutory rules Operentra applies for you and which you set yourself. This appendix explains how to read that for your own workspace; the authoritative answer is always the Statutory coverage card under Settings › Workspace (Chapters 3 and 8.4), which names the statutes it encodes.
The six statutory areas
| Area | Where it acts in Operentra | When marked "You configure this" |
|---|---|---|
| Income tax withholding | Tax on each payslip, tax certificates, Tax Reports (Chapter 63) | Enter your own tax slabs, or withhold nothing |
| Social security | Employee and employer contribution lines on payslips (Chapter 54) | Add your own contribution components (Chapter 51) |
| End-of-service / gratuity | The gratuity line in a final settlement (Chapter 62) | Enter any severance by hand at exit (Chapter 82) |
| Statutory leave entitlements | The leave types and policies a new workspace starts with (Chapter 45) | Build the leave set from your own policy |
| Employment contract | The statute cited in contract templates and the acceptance page (Chapter 31) | Have counsel write the contract wording |
| Public holidays | Holiday suggestions each year (Chapter 43) | Add holidays yourself |
Each area reads Automated by us (Operentra ships and maintains the data, citing the statute), You configure this (the feature works, the rules are yours), or Not applicable in your country (there is no such obligation, such as income tax where none is levied; the related pages, like Tax Reports and the portal's Tax Certificates, are then hidden).
What else the country changes
- Currency and money format, including how many decimals amounts are rounded to (Chapter 53).
- Identity documents: the name of the national identity number, the document types a workspace starts with, and which fields they ask for (Chapter 22).
- Employee fields shown only where the country uses them, such as a tax registration number or a father's name (Chapter 84).
- Employment types a new workspace starts with (Chapter 9).
- The fiscal-year start month a new workspace's years begin in (Chapter 10).
- Bank file formats offered for local banks (Chapter 58).
How to check what applies to you
- Read the Statutory coverage card on day one and each January (Chapter 8.4).
- For each "Automated by us" area, give the cited statute to your accountant to confirm it matches your situation (state, sector, size).
- For each "You configure this" area, set up your own rules before the first payroll run (Part 9) and before allocating leave (Part 8).
- Remember the card's own warning: it is not legal or tax advice.
