Chapter 87 — "Work": tasks, reports, performance

The Work group is where the performance module (Part 11) meets the employee: the tasks set for them, the reports they write, the score the evidence adds up to, and their appraisals. Employees ask fewer questions here than about money, but sharper ones ("why did my score drop?"), and the answer is always on these pages.

What this chapter covers

  • 87.1 My Tasks
  • 87.2 Daily report and weekly sales report
  • 87.3 My Performance
  • 87.4 My Appraisals and Reviews to Complete (managers)

The concept

Performance information is fair when the person measured sees what the manager sees: the tasks and their weights, the reports and their verdicts, the points and where they came from, and the review in progress. Surprises at review time mean the evidence was hidden; a portal that shows it all along removes the surprise.

How Operentra handles it

  • My Tasks, Daily Report, Sales Report and My Performance come with the plan's performance feature; Daily Report appears when the workspace uses daily reports, Sales Report for sales staff when weekly sales reports are on.
  • My Appraisals shows the person's appraisals and the self-review; Reviews shows managers the appraisals they review.
  • Who: every employee for their own work; Reviews for roles that review appraisals.

Walkthrough

The examples follow a Northwind engineer through a month: tasks from the team lead, a report most days, and the mid-year review.

87.1 My Tasks

My Tasks lists the person's tasks with the Task, Priority, Due, Points and Status; tasks still awaiting their weight are not shown. Start marks a task In Progress; Complete asks for a note for the manager ("A specific note helps your manager grade quality fairly") and sends it for grading; a recurring task has Mark done, which scores it at once when done before its deadline. A task past its deadline is highlighted. Grading, points and reminders are in Chapter 71.

87.2 Daily report and weekly sales report

Daily Report asks "What did you work on today?" (at least 20 characters), offers the open tasks under "Tasks you touched" and, where GitHub or WHMCS is connected, the day's tracked activity to attach. Submit Report locks it for the day. Missed days of the past week are listed to write late, which cancels their penalty; recent reports show their status and any AI note. An exempt employee reads "You're not required to submit daily reports" (Chapter 72).

Sales Report, for sales staff, asks for the week's numbers, one field per metric, due on the day and hour set by HR; the numbers can be updated until the week ends (Chapter 73).

87.3 My Performance

My Performance shows the last 30 days: the Score, Quality and Volume, the Points Earned, "Where your score comes from" (each source's points earned and possible, with its quality), and the recent ledger lines with their reason ("missed daily report on a working day", a task's grade). It is the same calculation the scoreboard uses (Chapter 70), so an employee and their manager read the same numbers. When a score drops, the ledger lines say why.

87.4 My Appraisals and Reviews to Complete (managers)

My Appraisals lists the person's appraisal cycles with the period, status and final rating. Open self review shows the competencies with their descriptions and weights, a rating on the workspace's scale (with each point's label) and a comment for each; Save draft keeps it, Submit to manager sends it once every competency is rated. Until HR finalizes the appraisal, only the person's own ratings show; afterwards, the result and the PDF (Chapter 69).

Managers whose role reviews appraisals also see Reviews, "Appraisals assigned to you as the reporting manager": each person's self-assessment beside Your rating and Your comments for each competency, Save draft and Submit review.

What happens next

  • Chapter 88 covers the Company group: announcements, assets and interviews.

What the employee sees

This chapter is what the employee sees.

Common mistakes

  1. Explaining a score without the ledger. Open My Performance with the employee and read the lines.
  2. Completing a task with no note. The manager grades what they can see.
  3. Writing the daily report the next morning. It is due an hour after the shift; late ones are possible for a week, with the penalty reversed only when written.
  4. Submitting a self-review half done. Submit needs every competency rated, and it cannot be changed after.

Practice

Use your own trial workspace, not a customer's.

  1. As a test employee, start and complete a task with a note; as the manager, grade it and read the new line in My Performance.
  2. Submit a daily report naming that task.
  3. Write and submit a self-review in an open cycle; as the reviewer, open it from Reviews.

Quiz

1. Which tasks does an employee see in My Tasks?

All their tasks except those still awaiting their weight.

2. How far back can a missed daily report be written?

Seven days; writing it reverses that day's penalty.

3. What period does My Performance cover?

The last 30 days, the same calculation as the scoreboard.

4. When can a self-review be submitted?

When every competency has a rating; after that it is final.

5. Who sees Reviews?

Managers whose role reviews appraisals, for the appraisals assigned to them.
