About the role
Hostings House is seeking a highly experienced Server Technician with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on expertise in enterprise server infrastructure, virtualization, networking, data-centre operations, and hybrid-cloud environments.
The ideal candidate must be capable of independently deploying, managing, securing, monitoring, and troubleshooting physical, virtual, and cloud-based production systems. Strong experience with SolusVM, VMware, Linux, Windows Server, enterprise hardware, AWS, Azure, GCP, advanced networking, storage, backup, disaster recovery, and infrastructure security is essential.
Experience working with a Managed Service Provider, hosting company, ISP, cloud provider, or data centre is strongly preferred.
What you'll do
- Deploy, configure, and manage enterprise rack, blade, virtual, cloud, and hybrid server environments.
- Administer Linux and Windows Server infrastructure across production, staging, backup, and disaster-recovery environments.
- Manage virtualization platforms including SolusVM, VMware ESXi, VMware vSphere, Proxmox, KVM, and Hyper-V.
- Design and maintain high-availability clusters, shared storage, replication, failover, load balancing, and live migration systems.
- Deploy and manage infrastructure on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
- Design secure hybrid-cloud integrations between on-premises infrastructure and public cloud platforms.
- Configure and troubleshoot advanced networking, including TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT, routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancing.
- Manage enterprise server hardware, RAID, SAN, NAS, iSCSI, storage performance, firmware, and hardware-failure recovery.
- Administer hosting environments using cPanel/WHM, Plesk, DirectAdmin, Apache, Nginx, LiteSpeed, IIS, and reverse proxies.
- Implement server hardening, access control, SSL/TLS, patch management, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, and security policies.
- Design and maintain enterprise backup, disaster-recovery, business-continuity, and infrastructure-monitoring solutions.
- Lead server, virtualization, data-centre, website, database, and cloud migration projects with minimum downtime.
- Diagnose and resolve complex server, cloud, virtualization, networking, storage, security, and performance incidents.
- Conduct infrastructure audits, capacity planning, performance optimization, root-cause analysis, and preventive maintenance.
- Maintain technical documentation, infrastructure diagrams, server inventories, IP allocations, backup procedures, and incident reports.
- Coordinate with data centres, cloud providers, ISPs, hardware vendors, and technical teams during deployments and critical incidents.
- Define infrastructure standards, mentor junior technical staff, and support critical maintenance activities when required.
What we're looking for
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on professional experience in enterprise server administration, infrastructure engineering, cloud operations, networking, or data-centre management.
- Proven experience working with an MSP, hosting company, ISP, cloud provider, data centre, or large enterprise infrastructure team.
- Expert knowledge of enterprise rack servers, blade servers, storage systems, RAID technologies, remote-management tools, and data-centre infrastructure.
- Advanced experience with SolusVM, VMware vSphere, VMware ESXi, Proxmox, KVM, Hyper-V, or equivalent virtualization platforms.
- Expert Linux and Windows Server administration skills.
- Strong production experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Proven experience designing and managing on-premises, cloud, and hybrid-cloud infrastructure.
- Advanced understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, NAT, subnetting, routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancing.
- Strong experience with enterprise server security, disaster recovery, backups, high availability, storage, monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Ability to independently diagnose complex infrastructure issues and implement permanent solutions.
- Strong documentation, incident management, communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
